Photo Assignments Week 1 - The Color Green

Every so often, I create photo assignments for the members of my discord channel and my Tiktok followers. Many of whom have a range of skill levels when it comes to photography. This round, I am focusing on growing their Visual Storytelling.

I am starting it out simple for the first seven weeks or so and focusing on a single color. The goal is for each artist to figure out what the color means to them and find a way to portray that. And that might sound easy, but finding and telling a story without direction can be tough.

For week 1 I chose the color green as our color. And while the color green is the most abundant color in the world, using it to tell a story proved even a struggle for me. I spent most of the week looking through the symbolism of green (harmony, balance, and tranquility, as well as renewal, health, and prosperity), looking at pinterest inspiration, and trying to figure out what green really meant to me.

My idea began to form with the idea of nature and began to lean a bit into body horror. In my storytelling, I like to take what we know and subvert it in some way. So I ended up creating the image blow titled Over Growth which is the idea of nature turning against us and taking back control and consuming us.
